A Man Has Got To Know His Limitations

When I first joined The Michigan Assembly (TMA), they were looking for a Marshal at Arms.

I attended a couple of Marshal-at-Arms, multiple-state, organizational calls and learned a Marshal at Arms is a bouncer.

I am not a bouncer.

The Michigan Coordinator suggested I might be good at being my county's Recording Secretary.  I attended a training session and learned TMA has developed pretty good methods and workflow documentation.

But I do not have Microsoft Windows computer gear.  I knew I could do the job if necessary, but dealing with other people's personal difficulties stresses me out.  It was not for me.

I am in the seventh decade of my life and I have learned about myself.  One of the things I learned relatively recently is my "personality type."  I discussed that in a post called Engineer over on my personal faith blog.  It helped me understand why I do what I do, and perhaps more importantly, why other people do what they do.

For me, the question I am always asking is, "Does it work?"  If something does not work, I try to fix it.

Our Government doesn't work, so I want to help fix it.  I joined TMA so I can do that, and I joined with enthusiasm.

I tried to contribute but was not successful.  Sitting in "study groups" and reading AVR articles with newbies for two hours was not a good use of my time.  I like to help people, and I enjoy socializing, but I just do not learn that way.  I am introverted and have always studied by myself.  I am retired from my engineering career and I have lots of time to spend learning.

The TMA leadership people were not moving fast enough for me and I tried to influence them.  That didn't work.

So, I extracted myself from that situation and have now set up this blog, the Michiganian Free Press.  It is something that needs to be done anyway, and it gives me a platform to express my ideas and gain closure.

I believe I have found my niche, at least for now.

People seem to be sitting around waiting to be told what to do.  We do not have time for that.

I suggest Michiganians need to pick up a hammer and start contributing.

Assess yourself.  What kind of personality do you have?  What experiences have you had and what are your skills?

Most importantly, what do you like to do?

Browse through the TASA "blueprint" list of committees and pick something that interests you.

Then go do it.  Get together with other Michiganians who have similar interests and make it happen.  Research that particular role.  Set up that committee.  Start meeting together.

For example, if you think you would like to be your county's Land-Jurisdiction Sheriff, make a list of things to do and go do them.

Become the expert.  Teach the Assembly.  Be the best.

If you can demonstrate to fellow Michiganians you know what you are doing, they will elect you.

There is no point in trying to learn everything.  People must specialize.  A small group of people cannot make this work.

Which brings up something else...  The crooks are perfectly happy for American State Nationals to fly their flag and "live in the Private."  In other words, they are perfectly happy if we do not actually do anything.

If you know Michiganians who are not contributing, kindly encourage them to join in the work.  Chances are, if they have changed their status at this point they did so because they want to fix their Government.  The perceived "free money" is not actually available yet and those people who are parasites are still living off the subcontractors' schemes.

Everybody who is status-corrected and does not have a conflict of interest should be helping.

Anyone who has a conflict of interest should be getting out of those situations so they can contribute.  Establishing a Global Family Group account is the first step to gaining financial freedom, and those people need to know about that.  But that is a different topic for a different day.

Get busy.
